Assessing single-helix screw pile geometry on offshore installation and axial capacity

نویسندگان

چکیده

Due to their low-noise installation and relatively large axial capacity, screw piles have been proposed as an alternative foundation solution in dense sand for offshore renewable energy applications deeper water. For this occur, significant upscaling of onshore dimensions is required. Furthermore, the effects certain geometric features on requirements are still not well understood. In work, using three-dimensional discrete-element method, base geometry, shaft diameter helix pitch were investigated by simulating full process prior conducting compression tension tests. The results investigation showed it possible optimise geometry pile reduce requirements, terms both vertical force (up 61%) torque 39%), without reducing capacity significantly.

Driveability Analysis Techniques for Offshore Pile Installations

Pile driveability analyses for offshore platforms require a unique set of criteria, which may not normally be associated with other pile foundation installations. The selected hammers, pile makeup details and soil profile must be carefully reviewed, as these factors will determine if pile installations will be successful. The most important of the variables to establish is the expected Soil Res...

Observed increases in offshore pile driving resistance

This paper presents 53 well-documented cases of the short-term set-up of open-ended steel pipe piles driven at two fields in the North Sea. Increases in soil resistance during driving (set-up) were observed when pile driving was re-started after delays typically ranging between 24 h and 100 h. The soil encountered at the sites consisted of overconsolidated sands and clays, where the clays varie...

Assessing underwater noise levels during pile-driving at an offshore windfarm and its potential effects on marine mammals.

Marine renewable developments have raised concerns over impacts of underwater noise on marine species, particularly from pile-driving for wind turbines. Environmental assessments typically use generic sound propagation models, but empirical tests of these models are lacking. In 2006, two 5MW wind turbines were installed off NE Scotland. The turbines were in deep (>40m) water, 25km from the Mora...

Seismic Bearing Capacity of Strip Footings on Pile-Stabilized Slopes

This paper develops an analytical method to calculate seismic bearing capacity of a strip footing, which is located on a slope reinforced with rows of pile. The resistance of passive pile is determined based on normal and shear stress of the soil around the pile, which is then compared to other analytical methods. This comparison indicates an acceptable agreement. The variants of the study incl...
